The Ensign Team consists of over 25 passionate and experienced boating personnel. The team has in its ranks former Super Yacht skippers, engineers, world class competitive sailors, blue water sailors with trans-ocean experience, game fishing, power boat and coastal cruising enthusiasts. The accumulated knowledge in the Ensign group is varied and widespread and comes from all facets of boating with experience gained worldwide.


AndyAndy Howden – Managing Director

Having worked in the marine industry since 1992, Andy Howden is a qualified skipper and engineer. Andy has spent the past decades working in the industry all over the world in Australia, the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean. Originally trained in the engineering technical commissioning and customer service aspects of the industry he gained experience in charter, multi brand sales new and second hand, distribution, after sales, service delivery and commissioning aspects of the marine industry. As an active member on the board of the Boating Industry of Australia’s Marine Brokers Association Andy believes in ethical, professional business practice across the industry and is an advocate to ensure the industry has standards that all can be proud of. Andy has always been involved in nautical pursuits himself. Being a keen cruising sailor on both cats and mono hulls, rescue diver, tournament fisherman, surfer, spear fisherman currently trying to find more time for competitive sailing.

Andy can understand your boating needs and desires from a varied background in the marine industry. As a director of Ensign Sydney and the importer of Bavaria Yachts and Power since 2002, he is committed to giving you a new level of customer service. Andy represents true versatility as he deals with power boats, catamarans, yachts passage makers and large Motor Yachts.

SeanSean Rush – Managing Director

Sean joined the Ensign Group in May 2019 as a joint owner and managing director together with Andy. Sailing and boating have been a passion for Sean since he was a young kid. He has been on many adventures with his family and friends sailing in Australia and internationally, from sailing in Pittwater, Sydney where he now lives to cruising in New Caledonia.

Sean brings to the Ensign Group 25 years international experience in global law firms advising international corporations on major transactions, projects and businesses around the world. Sean has developed businesses and teams and assisted in guiding the strategic direction of a number of organisations.

Sean will add a new level of professionalism to the business consolidating on the leading market position of the Ensign Group in Australia.

Tony has been the owner of Ensign Ship Brokers since 2004, and developed it into Australia’s leading boat brokerage. With offices Australia-wide he has acquired the dealerships for some of the world’s most prestigious brands including Bavaria, Nautitech, Sanlorenzo, HeySea Yachts and Italia Yachts. Earlier in 2019, Tony decided it was finally time to smell the roses and handed over the reigns to Sean Rush and Andy Howden.

Today, with over 20 years of experience in the boating industry, it is Tony Ross’s tenacious commitment to ethical business standards that ensures you are dealing with an exceptional businessman renowned for results and the ultimate growth of Australia’s largest boat brokerage. Peter Moloney

Gold Coast born and bread and the “Old Salt” of the crew, Peter gained early boating experience crewing charter boats in the Mediterranean in the seventies.

After selling his business in 1980, Peter and some friends bought a 42′ Chapelle Gaff Schooner and sailed it to Rhode Island for the successful Australian Americas Cup Challenge in 1983 as a prelude to cruising the Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Caribbean and adjoining areas for the next four years.

After returning to Australia and with a couple of businesses behind him, Peter joined Ensign as a boat broker and has since fostered some very successful sales.

Peter’s cruising knowledge and experience is available to any potential customers, and he finds great personal satisfaction finding the right boat to suit the buyer, be it power, house or sail.

Mark WhitmanMark Whitman

From a keen family of water-skiers and wake boarders, Mark began a career in retail sales as a sales manager in the UK, continuing for nearly 10 years.

In the mid 2000’s Mark was offered a job selling luxury power boats where he discovered a taste and talent for boat sales.

From 2006–2008 Mark worked for a Jeanneau Prestige Power dealership helping it win world dealer of the year [2007] and continued in luxury power, yacht boat sales across the South Coast of the UK and Channel Islands until 2010.

Mark began his Australian yacht sales career when he joined the importers for Bavaria Yachts in Sydney.

With a focus on national brand marketing in his current role, Mark is also familiar with most brokerage power boat and brokerage sailing yacht brands in Australia and around the world.


kateKate Douglass

Kate currently works out of the Ensign Royal Prince Alfred office in Newport. She has previous experience in the medical device industry, working as a Territory and Sales Manager and has also worked in the real estate industry as an Area Manager and General Manager for Century 21.

Kate started sailing when she was 10 years old and has sailed in twilight races on Pittwater for many years. She has her own yacht and can often be found out on Pittwater ‘messing about’ in her boat. Kate is passionate about boating and helping her clients to achieve their boating dreams.


Stephen RichardsonStephen Richardson

After completing University I spent a few years as a contract Civil Engineer but my yearning for the sea forced me to turn my back on Engineering and I entered the surf industry and have never looked back.

In the late 70’s while surfing in Hawaii I saw these crazy guys riding long surfboards with a sail at Diamond Head and immediately new I had to get into this. Within a few years I was involved in the fledging sailboard industry in Australia, exporting boards and components around the world and of course getting the opportunity to race/wave jump in unbelievable locations.

Having lived most of my life on the Mornington Peninsula surfing and sailing it was only a matter of time for me to get more involved in the keel boat racing scene in Victoria. My yacht “After Midnight” Ensign Racing is a common sight at regattas not just on Port Phillip Bay but also venturing out into Bass Straight ocean racing.

Being based at Martha Cove Marina on the Mornington Peninsula Victoria it has given me a great opportunity to build the Ensign / Bavaria brand which I expect to cultivate further by building sound foundations with our ever increasing client base.


Mark HellyerMark Hellyer

I started racing catamarans with my father on Pittwater when I was 12. Since then I have been sailing/racing regularly on boats of many different types and sizes on the harbour, offshore up and down the east coast, Hamilton Island race weeks, and have competed in State, National and World championships in many different classes. Most recently I sailed on a 54ft Nautitech in the ARC across the Atlantic. I still own a 12ft dinghy, a Hobie 17 and a 38ft yacht plus a kayak which enables me to be out on the water in some form at any opportunity. As my wife says, being on a boat is my happy place.

I have worked all over Australasia as a civil projects manager for 20 years, and then moved into equipment rental and sales, co-running my own business for 7 years and then 3 years as MD of a subsidiary for a foreign multi-national manufacturer.

I also used to own a SCUBA dive shop running it on the weekends for many years, so I am thrilled to be again working in an industry where I can help people fulfil their dreams and share in creating enjoyable times for them and their families & friends.

After all, a bad day on the water is still better than a good day at work.

Ron JacobsRon Jacobs

Boating has been my passion for over 50 years, my early childhood was spent on Sydney’s waterways where I started racing dinghies at Avalon Sailing club. A combination of competition Water Skiing & fishing filled in the rest of my early leisure time.

Yacht racing overtook my other interests, with my first trip overseas representing Australia in 1976 & also competing at Cowes Week. My interest in yachting became my career when in 1977 I started with Fraser Sails giving me the taste of project managing and campaigning many of Australia`s most successful yachts at both national and international level, a career path that has continued over many decades now. With multiple wins both outright & line honours in the Sydney Hobart Race along with numerous Hamilton Island Race Week wins, plus Podium results at many overseas regattas. I have been blessed with seeing the world whilst competing with & against many of the best sailors in the world.

In mid 1990 I ventured into selling yachts & started my own brokerage in 1998, specializing in the importation & sale of boats to the performance yachting market along with the distribution & importation of production Sail & Motor boats which I continued for over the next 17 years, before selling the business.

The past 10 years has seen me also turn my interest to competition Game Fishing, owning & campaigning 3 Game fishing Sports boats has seen my team enjoy considerable success in many of the Tournaments along the NSW coast.

After a 2 year break away from boat sales, I am back representing & working with the team at Ensign Yacht Brokers to provide 1st class service in the sale of clients boats whilst also assisting clients purchase the very best boat to suit their needs & desires.


Maryana KosciukiewiczMaryana Kosciukiewicz

Born in Ukraine, raised in the UK, Maryana has travelled extensively and relocated to Sydney due to her love for the ocean, surfing and boating.

With a legal background, Maryana’s favourite job as a lawyer was working at Yachting Lawyers in London where she advised clients on acquisitions, sale of boats and syndicate agreements located on board the HMS President on the Thames. Maryana also enjoys business development and has advised a number of companies on their sales strategies.

Maryana enjoys all aspects of sailing and power boating, having sailed the Solent, the Adriatic, the Ionian and the Australian East Coast.

Her passion is boating and business development, a perfect combination for a boat broker! She loves conducting boat viewings and says “It is always exciting to show off each boat’s unique and special features! Without a doubt, each boat has something special and a great story to tell.”


Adam CairnsAdam Cairns

Qualified ship and boat builder worked for Hatteras, Riviera & mariner Cruisers and as a shipwright at Fergusons Boatshed Middle Harbour Sydney.

I founded company designing and manufacturing, products for clients all over the globe.

During this time, Boating and Game fishing was the circuit breaker. The company was sold in 2017.

After a one year Sabbatical, and wanting to work in an environment I genuinely enjoy.

I was delighted to join the team at Ensign.


Nic JonesNic Jones – Yacht Broker

Qualified, friendly, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and hardworking, Nic is a Master Class 4 and Marine Engineer Grade 2. With experience working onboard boats as a Captain here in Australia, he understands the ins and outs of boating and the waterways & coastlines which you may travel. As a buyer or seller, Nic’s knowledge and experience is available to you.

Yana ShylkaYana Shylka- Yacht Broker

Yana joined the Ensign Group in December 2019 as a Yacht Broker. Born in Belarus, raised in Poland, she relocated to the Gold Coast due to her love for surfing, sun, boating and happy people.

Yana brings to the Ensign Group a broad array of international experience in Architecture and the Real Estate industry. A strong entrepreneurial spirit has set her on her own independent path. She has always craved more creative and intellectual fulfilment than she could get following the status quo. Yana began her professional career in 2014 when she opened her architectural and construction company ‘YS Studio’. She has brought her flair in a number of collaborations with clients to deliver high-quality conceptual and detailed designs and to oversee the execution of these projects. A natural progression resulted in her working with a luxury real estate office Hamilton May, In 2017, executing real estate sales and acquisitions in the thriving high-end property market.

As for her customers, well, many of them would call her “The Queen Bee”. Not only because of her strong personality, but also because Yana remembers all the finer details, and consumes all responsibility and stress during these complicated transactions. This is what makes customers feel special. She makes her clients a number one priority.

Yana speaks English, Russian, and Polish, so she can be an asset in many situations. Ultimately building trustworthy and honest relationships with all of her clients and friends.

Boating is her passion, but even more her mission is to help clients find a perfect yacht for their needs. In such a way that the whole process becomes an adventure and pleasure.
